Photo sharing service Instagram has launched a standalone iOS app dubbed Hyperlapse which allows for capturing time-lapse videos.
According to Instagram, the Hyperlapse app will let users make high-quality time-lapse videos with ease even while moving around with a smartphone. The new app applies the same video image stabilization technology found in the regular Instagram app to ensure smooth and good quality footage.
Users can record up to a total of 45 minutes per individual video using the new Hyperlapse app. After taking the footage, users can also set the speed at which the video will play with options ranging from the standard 1x speed up to a rapid 12x. Once the videos get finalized they are saved to the Camera Roll. Users can then share the saved Hyperlapse videos on social networking sites like Facebook and Instagram.
Users’ do not require any login to use the Hyperlapse app. Once the app launches, the user can simply use the start/stop button to record footage using the video camera and then green check mark to save the footage directly to the Camera Roll.
“From documenting your whole commute in seconds or the preparation of your dinner from start to finish to capturing an entire sunset as it unfolds, we’re thrilled about the creative possibilities Hyperlapse unlocks,” Instagram’s blog post read.
Hyperlapse is Instagram’s second standalone app, the first being Bolt released in July, post its acquisition by Facebook in 2012 worth a whopping $1 billion. Bolt is an instant messaging app same like Snapchat that allows users to send video and picture messages to friends.
Hyperlapse is currently available for download on the iTunes Store.
