Sony has revealed that the distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that hit PlayStation Network (PSN) was an attempt to overwhelm its network with artificial traffic and that no customer information has been accessed during that time.
PSN users started reporting of indefinite loading times; NW-31456-9 “Cannot connect to the server within the time limit”; and other such errors yesterday and within minutes of these reports a hacking collective going by the name The Lizard Crew claimed that PSN was under a DDoS and took responsibility for the same.
Sony, also acknowledged the attack and revealed that it was working to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Just a few hours back Sony put out an official statement again through a blog post that read: “Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.”
Sony also assured that user data hasn’t been compromised by stating: “Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.”
