Fuhu, the maker of Nabi tablets, has built 2 giant tabs measuring 20 and 24-inches to be available later this year, primarily designed to educate as well as entertain kids.
The Big Tabs can be propped up or laid flat to play multiplayer games or enjoy reading interactive books with family. The devices will be preloaded with board games and a digital canvas to enjoy painting.
Fuhu’s executives said that they have seen their own family members engaged with their devices and that is why they created Nabi Big Tab to let families enjoy their time together.
Robb Fujioka, founder and president of Fuhu said in a statement that the company is trying to make a product that “enhances collaboration and socialization.”
The Big Tab will bring with it about 20 games such as chess and air hockey, with some of its preloaded content supplied by Disney and Cartoon Network. It will also include drawing, movie-making and animation apps. The screen supports multi-touch for up to 20 fingers meaning that 10 people can use the tablet at the same time.
Although tablet sales is said to be declining by market analysts, Fuhu believes that “there is a market for the Big Tab,” pointing to the statistics that about 20 to 25 percent of customers who bought a tablet of the 200 million tablets sold last year were parents who were looking for family entertainment and ended up seeing that their device did not fulfil their expectations. Hence, Fuhu says that its device with a screen as big as a personal computer’s can help them achieve what they were looking for.
