Renault has announced one of its cheapest cars yet for the UK dubbed Twingo for just £9495, which will go on sale in late September.
Undercutting its nearest rival Fiat 500 by around £500, the third-generation Twingo will be available in a 5-door and rear-wheel drive only option with two engine choices – a 1.0-litre 70hp three-cylinder normally aspirated engine and a 0.9-litre 90hp turbocharged unit.
Twingo will feature in three different trim levels including Expression, Play, Dynamique and will be available right from day one after launch in both engine options.
Both the engine models have emission in tune of less than 100g/km CO2 with Dynamique Sce being the cleanest car out of the three trim levels with just 95g/km of CO2.
For £9,495 you will get the 1.0-litre Twingo Expression with 70bhp; a 0-62mph time of 14.5 seconds and capable of top speed of 94mph.
All new Twingo models will feature smartphone-operated ‘R & Go’ system that comprises of navigation system, telephone, multimedia and trip computer; body coloured bumpers, door handles, door mirror shells; a rear spoiler; and LED daytime running lights.
If you are ready to shell out over £2000 more, you can opt for Twingo Dynamique that will set you back by £11,695 but get you a higher-powered 90bhp, 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine. You will also get front foglights; heated door mirrors; cruise control; lane departure warning; a leather-trimmed steering wheel; and pockets in the rear doors.
The mid-level ‘Play’ models packs 15-inch alloys; air con; height-adjustable driver’s seat and steering.
If we compare the base pricing of Twingo with cars from other vendors – its £900 more than the base model of Toyota Aygo; just over £500 more than an entry-level Ford Ka; and over £800 more than Volkswagen’s Up.
