It seems Microsoft is all set to roll out a preview of its upcoming Windows 9 operating system codenamed “Threshold” months in advanced before the public release.
According to a report on ZDNet, which cites unnamed sources, preview of the next major Windows iteration – possibly to be named “Windows 9” – may come as early as late September or October. The final public release is expected to be scheduled for April 2015.

The report claims that users who wish to install the Windows 9 preview version will reportedly receive automatic regular monthly updates for the operating system. Redmond did the same thing prior to releasing Windows 8 when it rolled-out three external ‘preview’ versions of the software before releasing it to the general public in October 2012.
Previous leaks claim Threshold is likely to include a number of new features including the start menu that was unavailable on Windows 8; windowed Metro-Style applications userface; virtual desktops, which will let users run applications in different areas of their desktops; integration of Windows’ virtual personal assistant Cortana as well as elimination of the Charms bar that debuted as part of Windows 8.
