Planning to buy the new iPhone, hold on and rethink. A test has revealed that new iPhones viz. iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are much more prone to breaks and scratches as compared to previous models.
Square Trade, a gadget protection plans provider firm, recently tested five new smart phones including Apple’s newest iPhones to check if the handsets could resist drop, dunks and other similar common hazards. The findings revealed that the latest iPhone models are less durable than the iPhone 5 model launched last year.
Samsung’s Galaxy S4 proved to be the biggest loser and failed to work when submerged in water and after being dropped from a height of 5 feet. Google Moto X managed to withstand SquareTrade’s torture test in best possible ways.
Square Trade’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ty Shay, said that “We were expecting that at least one of the new iPhone models would up its game, but surprisingly, it was the Moto X that proved most forgiving of accidents”.
Tests were carried out based on eight factors including the device’s front and back panel material, its weight and its size. It also tested the handset’s ability to withstand a drop from a height of 5 feet and being submerged in water for around 10 seconds.
The Galaxy S4 was the worst of them all with a score of 7. The iPhone 5S scored 5.5, the iPhone 5C scored 6 while iPhone 5 scored 5 in the test (lower the better).
