Mobile processor designer and manufacturer MediaTek is ramping up its 4G plans and has revealed that it is not only doubling its shipment targets for the current year, but is also introducing its 4G octa-core chip later this year.
Company’s president announced the revised targets earlier today stating that the company is expecting to ship a whopping 30 million units of its 4G chips as against previous targets of 15 million.
Hsieh Ching-chiang revealed that the company is going to increase production of its 4G chips including MT6752 and MT6732 this October and in December it is also intending to start shipping its octacore MT6795 4G chip.
4G handsets are becoming mainstream now with more and more vendors shipping out 4G enabled smartphones, but these are only limited to premium and high-end smartphones. However, Mediatek intends to grab a mammoth-share from the low-end 4G enabled smartphone segment by partnering with Chinese as well as international vendors.
The company is also expecting to launch entry-level 4G solutions in early 2015.
