Even three months after Microsoft called off support for Windows XP operating system, the ancient OS continues to account for around 24.82 percent of the market share as of July 2014, claims a new report.
According to latest market share data from NetApplications, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 witnessed a drop in combined market share between June and July, with Windows XP accounting for a slight decrease in share. Windows 7, on the other hand, managed to increase in market share.
More specifically, Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 lost a combined share of 0.06 percentage points to 12.48 percent from 12.54 percent during June and July.
While Windows 8 slipped by 0.01 percentage to 5.92 percent from 5.93 percent, Windows 8.1 dipped 0.05 percentage to 6.56 percent from the previous 6.61 percent. With a market share of 24.82 percent, down 0.49 percent from 25.31 percent, Windows XP remained to be the second most popular Windows browser.
Meanwhile, Windows 7 managed to grab a market share of 51.22 percent, up 0.67 percentage points from previous month’s 50.55 percent share.
Windows overall market share in July went up to 91.68 percent, up 0.15 percentage points from 91.53 percent. Comparatively, Mac OSX’s market share slipped 0.09 percent to 6.64 percent, while Linux’s market share in July fell 0.06 percent to 1.68 percent.
Net Applications’ latest data has been compiled on the basis of data received from 160 million unique visitors each month by monitoring some 40,000 websites for its clients.
