Ford Fiesta is the best selling car in the UK with sales topping a whopping 4,115,000 units, surpassing previous high of 4,105,961 set by Ford Escort.
First launched as early as 1976 and first made at Dagenham in Essex, Escort has been a leading car in the small car segment of the UK for over 27 years during its 37 year life. The current model is manufactured by the engineers at research and development centre in UK at Ford’s Dunton, Essex and Ford Diesel Centre at Dagenham.
Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain chairman and managing director, said: “The Ford Fiesta has gone from strength to strength and today’s car combines style, value, driving dynamics and remarkable technologies such as the multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. It continues to outsell its nearest retail competitor by more than two to one – and that really tells the story of this extraordinary car.”
Fiesta has evolved to great extent in its 38 year life span with the latest models having almost twice the fuel efficiency and around 50 percent less CO2 emissions compared to the 1976 original model.
Accounting for more than 40 percent of sales, the 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine is the most popular choice of power unit, while the £12,945 Ford Fiesta Zetec is the best-selling model.
