It seems that Apple’s plans for 2014 are going pear-shaped as there are now rumours that the 12-inch MacBook has trouble entering production and consequentially the launch would be pushed to late Q3 or early 2015.
Two separate news reports from Taiwan indicate that its partner supplier Quanta is receiving deliveries of parts of the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air which is about to enter production in August.
The company has likely redesigned both models of MacBook Air and reports suggest that the new batches will increase Quanta’s shipment by 15 percent.
The devices are said to get new screens, chipsets and chassis, among others and will hit shelves in late August even if there are unexpected delays in production.
The mid-sized MacBook Air incorporates Intel’s 14-nanometer Broadwell chips and as said by Intel, there is a shortage in supply for it which is the primary hindrance for the production of the 12-inch MacBook Air.
Although Apple has had no problems with the chip inventory in the past, the shortage of the Broadwell chips has now interrupted production of the 12-inch model. It was expected to reach consumers by early Q3 2014.
Earlier this year, Apple Chief Tim Cook and Senior Vice President Eddy Cue have hinted about Apple’s plans to release several new products across 2014.
Few of the devices and offerings on its agenda for this year include iPads incorporating the fingerprint sensor, a wearable dubbed iWatch, iOS 8, OS X Yosemite, and more models of iMac and iMac mini. However, some of the devices are coming later than expected, if the rumours are to be believed.
