Volvo has revealed details about its new 2015 seven-seater model XC90 and has also detailed the engines that will power the new car – a range of top of the line plug-in hybrid engines.
The Volvo XC90 T8 will be powered by a ‘twin Engine’ that will produce power of 394bhp and the torque of 650Nm. This model has the fuel economy of 110mpg emitting 60g/km of CO2 while the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has the fuel economy of 148mpg which emits 44g/km of CO2. But Volvo still gets an advantage of 190bhp of power.
XC90 is blessed with the 2.0 liter petrol engine from Volvos new four-cylinder Drive-E engine family. A supercharger is attached to give the feel of much larger capacity engine and lightning throttle response at low speed while the turbine will take charge as the revs builds up.
Diesel models of XC90 will also be launched – D4 model capable of 187bhp power and torque of 400Nm and the other model XC90 D5 has the power of 223bhp and torque of 470Nm. Both the models will be equipped with Eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Peter Mertens Volvo’s Senior Vice President of R&D said “There are no compromises when you drive an all-new XC90, in the past you could either have power or low CO2 emissions. But with the all-new XC90 you can have both.”
The all new Volvo XC90 is the first model which is based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and its first debut in public will be held at Paris Motor Show in October.
