Riot Games has disabled League of Legends public chat rooms citing reasons of Elo-boost spam and RP spams until further notice as it seeks feedback on how to improve its system for a cleaner and better version.
Acknowledging that its chat system is flawed Riot Games notes in a community post that its community hugs lack moderation tools apart from the ignore button, which isn’t enough to combat spam and scammers.
Riot states that the experience in private chat rooms may be better than their public counterparts, but it wants to work in improving the experience and wants to provide tools that can be used to “address unwelcome drop-ins and toxic behavior”.
The company further added that they are looking at how they can improve the chat system to enhance their usability and add new functionality. But, till then, “as an immediate action we’re going to disable the public chat rooms until they’re useful and accessible”, said Riot.
“In their current shape they just don’t work and can actively create negative experiences for many players (especially new players).”
The private chat rooms are unaffected, but the public chat rooms have been disabled for an indefinite time with a promise that they will be back as soon as possible.
Riot is asking its community members and players for feedback on what they are expecting from the chat rooms and how can it provide better and right tools to make the community stronger.
