Mini has begun production of its new 5-door MINI Hatchback, which is expected to hit showroom floors in autumn this year. The new Mini comes from the 3-door Mini family which was released in November 2013.
The five doors Mini measures 4 meters in length and with 161mm more length than its three door counterpart, it gives 61mm of more interior width, 278 liters of boot space and 15mm of extra headroom for greater comfort to passengers.
Frank Bachmann, managing director of MINI Plants Oxford and Swindon, said that the commencement of production of the 5-door Mini will open “up a whole new market segment for the brand” and company’s investment towards creation of “state-of-the-art technology and facilities at Oxford and Swindon for the launch of this new generation of MINI” demonstrates BMW Group’s commitment towards “a long-term future for its UK production sites.”
BMW has revealed that its latest five-door hatchback is the second member of the Mini family that is being built on a new platform – a platform that the company claims allows for more models of greater variation to be produced more efficiently.
The company will soon introduce other variants on its new platform including Convertibles, Countryman, and Clubvan among others.
