Apple has confirmed that it will cease all development of Aperture with the launch of Photos app starting early next year and users will be able to migrate their existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS X.
Apple’s demo of Photos for iOS and OS X at the WWDC 2014 left many wondering as to how will the future of professional grade Aperture for desktops and laptops shape out. Further doubts were cast when many found that beta version of OS X Yosemite was not supporting Aperture.
Apple has cleared all these doubts by officially announcing that “there will be no new development of Aperture” with the introduction of new Photos app and iCloud Photo Library. TechCrunch notes that Apple will bring Aperture support to OS X Yosemite, but that was the last of it and users shouldn’t expect any further development.
Soon after its Aperture announcement, Apple released a number of update to its remaining professional desktop applications including Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage on OS X.
Adobe on the other hand took the opportunity to announce that it was investing heavily on Lightroom and new Creative Cloud Photography plan and that it will help interested iPhoto and Aperture customers to migrate to Adobe’s solutions.
