Rumours and speculations hinting at the possible demise of Nexus brand have been squashed with the Google’s Dave Burke words “still invested in Nexus.”
Dave Burke, head of Android engineering and Nexus program in an interview with ReadWrite has confirmed that Nexus is here to stay alive and kicking, and that the comments about the end of the brand as there is “something else” going on, is the “totally wrong conclusion to make.”
Burke explained that the company is developing a Nexus device alongside a new Android iteration suggesting that a brand new Nexus device is in the works and will arrive with the Android L this autumn. However, he hasn’t mentioned any device in particular.
Interestingly, Burke used the word “device,” rather than “devices,” suggesting the recent leak of Nexus device this year – HTC-built “Volantis” – rumoured to be Nexus 9, sporting an 8.9-inch display. The device is expected to pack an NVIDIA Logan 64-bit Tegra K1 processor coupled with 2GB RAM.
He added that Nexus is almost a “statement of purity,” that shows how Google thinks Android should operate and reiterated that the company is committed to Nexus range, with an end not any time soon.
Burke also confirmed the Android Silver project, but refused to elaborate on it. Previous reports pointed to the idea that Android Silver would come as a replacement for the Google Play edition devices as well as the Nexus devices. However, that is not the case likely now, as it is speculated to be a program for high end devices.
