Coinciding with the launch of Microsoft-owned Nokia’s Android smartphone X2, Opera announced that it has signed a deal with Microsoft that will see the former’s browser come pre-installed as the default browser on all of the Nokia X series smartphones.
As part of the deal, Opera will be the default web browser on the latest Nokia X2 smartphone, launched earlier this week with €99 price tag.
“Our companies have enjoyed a long history together, and this represents a huge step forward for both of the companies,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software, in a blog post.
“We have worked closely with the Microsoft Devices Group on this project, to make sure the users of Nokia X affordable smartphones can have the best web browsing experience right out of the box.”
Opera has become one of the user’s favourite browsers with some of its exciting features. The browser offers Opera Turbo, a cost and time-saving feature that compresses the amount of data transferred to the device when loading a web page before it reaches the user’s mobile.
Another interesting feature is Speed Dial, which lets users keep a track of their favourite websites and get to them faster. There’s also the Discover feature that helps users find new content that interests them.
Launched in January, the Opera browser for Nokia X devices is now available for download on the Nokia Store for free.
