Samsung lifted the curtains off Galaxy Tab S which closely resembles its predecessors, alongside two new covers and a Bluetooth keyboard.
It comes in two sizes, a 10.5-inch and an 8.4-inch variant, both including a finger print sensor embedded in their home button.
In a slimmer profile, the devices feature Samsung’s flagship Super-AMOLED display, with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600. Packing a powerful dual-core Exynos S Octa processor, the bigger model weighs 453gm while the smaller variant tips the scale around 283 gm.
It has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. The tablets also comes with support for 802.11n/ac wireless networking, which is the latest standard most tech companies are trying to adopt.
Galaxy Tab S also packs a built-in storage of 16GB with options to expand the memory using a micro SD card. Samsung claims that the battery will last for 11 hours of video. The 10.5 and 8.4-inches tablets, priced at $499 and $399 respectively, are expected to arrive at the consumer market sometime in July this year.
The Korean tech giant is convinced that their 22.6 percent of market share in the tablet range with their Galaxy Tab range of devices can be extended with the introduction of Galaxy Tab S.
DJ Lee, Samsung Executive pointed to the Strategy Analytics report which says that at least 290 million tablets will be shipped this year. He said, Samsung has “made a commitment to tablets, because we strongly believe in its market potential.”
Debuted alongside the Galaxy Tab S are three accessories: Two covers (a book cover and a normal cover) and a Bluetooth keyboard.
The book cover has many folds that let users make it a platform to hold the device in different angles for better viewing.
For conventional contenders, the simple cover without folds and covers the bottom edge of the device while exposing the rear camera could be the best bet. Both covers will be available in four colours – electric blue, glam red, charcoal black, and titanium bronze.
The Bluetooth keyboard attaches to the device with a clasp which can be folded to be used as a hard-shell tablet cover.
