Infosys on Thursday appointed Vishal Sikka, a former SAP AG executive board member, as the new Chief Executive Officer and MD.
The new Vadodara-born CEO will take over the company’s reigns from the hands of current CEO S.D. Shibulal on August 1. This is for the first time in the history of Infosys that a non-founder has been appointed as the company’s CEO.
Along with Sikka’s appointment, the IT giant also announced that the company’s current Executive Chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy and Executive Vice Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan would step down from their posts on Saturday, June 14. However, both will continue to be on the board in non-executive roles till October 10, post which Murthy will be Chairman Emeritus.
Murthy was called back from retirement last year to take up the chairman role to help revive the company’s lagging profit figures. Murthy’s son, Rohan, will also be leaving the company on June 14.
“I am honoured to lead Infosys which is an iconic co built by pioneers,” Sikka, on his appointment said in the press release.
“I look forward to working with and learning from talented Infoscions around the world. Computing technology is reshaping every industry across every walk of life. We, at Infosys, have a unique opportunity to deliver breakthrough solutions that will bring greater value to our clients, employees, investors and other stakeholders.”
Narayana Murthy commenting on Sikka’s appointment said “Sikka is an ideal choice to lead Infosys.”
“Sikka will bring valuable experience as leader of global company.”
