Mozilla has released Firefox 30 for Windows, Linux and Mac and has indicated that a mobile edition of the same version will be released soon.
One of the most visible update for end users is the Sidebar button, which once enabled, will allow users to quickly access bookmarks or history sidebars. Further, they will also be able to access any other content added to the sidebar by social providers and things added by third-party plugins. Users can enable the Sidebar button by going to Tools > Customise option.
One of the biggest change in Firefox 30 is that plugins will no longer be activated automatically – except the whitelisted ones. Users will be prompted to activate a plugin – the first time it is required by a particular site.
On the developer front, Firefox 30 now blocks call WebIDL constructors as functions on the web; fixes issues related to autocomplete=’off’ and password manager; and another bug that meant that TypedArrays didn’t support new named properties.
Firefox 30 also brings with it platform specific features as well. On Linux, Firefox 30 brings with it support for open-source multimedia framework GStreamer 1.0.
Support for this framework means that users will now be able to natively access H.264 videos as well as MP3 and AAC audio files through the browser.
On Mac, Firefox 30 now allows users to use the selected text as the basis for a search by pressing [Cmd]+[E].
Firefox 30 for Android will also be releasing soon that brings with it Quickshare buttons to the Firefox context menu. It also brings with it a fix that resolves issue that stopped a MP4 video from reloading once it was played.
