Corsair took the curtains off its Voyager Air 2, the second-generation drive in the Voyager Air range of travel friendly wireless hard drives.
Voyager Air 2 packs a non-removable rechargeable battery and a storage capacity of up to 1TB. The updated software sorts media files so that users can easily locate their desired movie and music quickly based on criteria such as title, genre, artist and album.
It is compatible with all platforms including Android, iOS, Windows PC and Mac. Voyager Air 2 resembles its predecessor closely except the modified enclosure. Unlike Voyager Air, the 500 GB option will not be available.
Corsair’s statement read, “The drive can also be connected wirelessly to a home network for easy access to media from DLNA-compatible smart TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles, DVRs, and streaming media boxes.”
“Plus full Airplay compatibility allows convenient streaming to big screen TVs via an Apple TV.”
The device comes with its own Wireless G connectivity letting smartphones and tablets to connect to it within a 90 feet range. You can connect up to five devices simultaneously and stream 720p videos.
Upon a full-charge, the battery is said to last seven hours. It also allows cloud syncing with Corsair’s version 2.0 software.
Connecting it to a wireless hotspot lets users create a mobile wireless hub and multiple devices can share the internet connection; however, it only comes with a 2.4GHz spectrum which means if too many devices are connected, all devices will have a poor connectivity.
It also includes an USB 3.0 external drive ready to use in NTFS for Windows. Mac users can reformat it to HFS+ easily.
Voyager Air 2 is expected to hit shelves anytime this month with a price tag of $180.
