Nearly a month after the on-day sale, Google on Tuesday announced that the Google Glass Explorer edition is now available for sale to everyone in the US for $1,500.
Google has also posted a Thank you video which highlights the cool yet pretty inspiring things that early members of its Explorer program have done with the wearable computer.
Just a few days back, Google said it was looking for “new ways to expand the program in the weeks and months ahead,” following the overwhelming response during one-day sale on April 15. As promised the open beta is now here, with the wider official launch slated for late 2014.
“Last week we told you we’d be trying out new ways to find Explorers. Well, we weren’t kidding. We learned a lot when we opened our site a few weeks ago, so we’ve decided to move to a more open beta. We’re still in the Explorer Program while we continue to improve our hardware and software, but starting today anyone in the US can buy the Glass Explorer Edition, as long as we have it on hand:google.com/glass,” read the post.
“We’re ready to keep meeting new Explorers, and we can’t wait to hear all your experiences and feedback to continue to make Glass even better, ahead of our wider consumer release.”
However, the Google Glass website is still having the “join the queue” notice in place. The site also reveals the names of the four new frames – “Split”, “Thin”, “Bold,” “Curve,” available in charcoal, tangerine, cotton, shale, and sky colour options. Google has also listed the details of polarised lenses and earbuds, specifically customized to be compatible with Glass.
