Virgin Media has renewed its deal with Sky for another five years, retaining its right to distribute Sky’s entertainment content including sports and movie channels in their respective HD versions, along with a few new channels this time.
The companies’ statement said that the deal “gives each company clear financial visibility and opens up the opportunity for more Virgin TV customers to enjoy Sky’s channels.”
Sky CEO, Jeremy Darroch said, “We’re pleased to have extended our partnership with Virgin Media, which increases the reach of our content and reinforces our broadly-based approach to growth.”
The announcement also noted that The Virgin TV Anywhere app would also be made available for selected tablets and mobiles, which could be presumed as iDevices and high-end Android devices with the required specs.
Tom Mockridge, Chief Executive Officer, Virgin Media said, “We are excited our customers will be able to watch even more great TV from Sky on more devices as a result of the most extensive agreement ever signed between Virgin Media and Sky.”
While the original deal includes channels such as Sky Movies, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living, Sky News, Sky Arts and Sky Sports, the new deal gives Virgin Media access to a few more channels including Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Sports 4 HD and Sky Sports F1 HD.
In addition, the company can also allow its users to access these channels and subscription content using the Virgin TV Anywhere app. To top the service up, Virgin Media also said that it will soon let subscribers use the Sky Sports and Sky Movies channels app to access on demand content and live shows starting this summer.
