Best Buy has slashed prices of the original Microsoft Surface Pro tablet by a whopping $400 thereby putting them up for sale at an attractive $499.
The tablet carried a price tag of $999 before the price cut and the two main reasons behind the price cuts could be: first, Surface Pro 2 costs $899 at full price – $100 less than the original Surface Pro – making the first generation Surface Pro look bad. Secondly, chances are that Best Buy had a pile of the original Surface Pro tablets in its warehouses and wanted to get rid of them as the tablet is about to complete one year.
Powered by dual core Intel Core i5-3317U, the first generation Surface Pro tablet packs a 10.6-inch multi-touch IPS display with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution at 208 ppi, 4GB RAM, Intel HD 4000 Graphics, 128GB internal storage (this model), microSD card slot, front and rear snappers, Bluetooth 4.0 and dual-band Wireless N connectivity among other features.
The tablet neither has an adjustable kickstand nor Intel’s Haswell chip, but at $499, the Surface Pro is definitely a steal considering it packs a full Windows 8 Pro operating system.
If you compare the latest Surface Pro 2 with its predecessor, there are a few differences including Intel Core i5-4200U [Haswell] chip, Intel HD Graphics 4400, and storage capacities up to 512 GB.
