Nintendo reveals strong 3DS game sales for 2013

Nintendo has revealed that it managed to sell a whopping 16 million 3DS games in 2013 through retailers and its eShop registering an increase of 45 percent year-on-year.

The company said that it had a record-breaking 2013 and is expecting the new game releases will enable it to continue the momentum. “More than 16 million combined packaged and digital Nintendo 3DS games were sold in 2013, an increase of more than 45 percent over 2012’s Nintendo 3DS game sales”, said Nintendo in a press release.

Nintendo revealed that lifetime sales of its 3DS family of handheld consoles, which includes 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS, have reached 11.5 million units milestone in the US alone.

The company highlighted some of the games that will be released this year including Yoshi’s New Island, Disney Magical World, Bravely Default, and Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy among others. All the listed games are releasing in the first half of 2014.

“Shoppers bought Nintendo 3DS games in record numbers in 2013, and Nintendo plans more great games to continue the momentum in 2014”, said Nintendo.
