BBC has launched a new app dubbed CBeebies Storytime that aims to encourage kids to learn through a collection of stories based on shows such as Old Jack’s Boat, Show Me Show Me, Something Special, Grandpa in my Pocket, Octonauts and Charlie and Lola.
The app, available for iOS and Android, features many familiar characters from many of CBeebies shows and delivers each of the stories through a mix of text, voice narrations and interactivity to motivate kids to lean. At the end of each of the stories, kids will find a comprehension question to answer.
To appeal to a larger audience, the app packs two reading options: “Read to Me” and “Read by Myself” geared towards children of different age groups.
Parents will also find a separate section providing them with tips on how they can support their children’s reading development.
The app currently has only six stories, but it seems that more will follow soon based on the reception garnered by the app. Storytime app comes around a year after BBC’s first app CBeebies Playtime, which managed to garner over 3 million downloads.
