Tesco’s new app cuts international call rates

Tesco has rolled out a new app that will allow users to make international phone calls at extremely cheap rates using internet.

The app for iPhone and Android handsets dubbed Tesco calling card is absolutely free to download. The company claims international calls made using the app will cost as low as two pence a minute as the app connects to Wi-Fi to lower the charge of international calls.

For instance football fans visiting Brazil for the World Cup could end up paying a hefty bill of over £60 for a 30-minute phone call back to the UK. Where as a 30 minute call made using the app from Brazil to the UK would cost only 60p.

“The new app offers an even more convenient and cost effective way to keep in touch with loved ones over the summer, whether that be from the sun lounger to back home, or from the sofa in the UK to family living overseas,” Tesco said.

The app can also be used to call overseas from the UK for just 1p per minute.

In addition to making calls, users can also send in-app messages to each other. Users can add credit to their account through the app, in-store or online.

Tesco also offers users with £1 credit for downloading the new app and £2 for referring their friends. The purchased card will be valid for 90 days after purchase or from the last time the user topped up.
