In a fantasy-come-true revelation, Samsung says it will be selling devices capable of transferring Wi-Fi data at speeds of up to 4.6 Gbps.
Existing technologies allow a maximum speed of 866 Mbps only, which means the new technology will be anything up to 5 times faster that the fastest available for consumer goods.
In layman’s terms this means a 1GB movie can be transferred in less than 3 seconds while a high-definition video can be transferred from a mobile to TV without time delay.
Announcing this, Kim Chang Yong, Head of DMC R&D Centre of Samsung Electronics said, “Samsung has successfully overcome the barriers to the commercialization of 60GHz millimetre-wave band Wi-Fi technology, and looks forward to commercializing this breakthrough technology.”
Speaking about its application in devices, he added, “New and innovative changes await Samsung’s next-generation devices, while new possibilities have been opened up for the future development of Wi-Fi technology.”
It is widely believed that the new technology is likely to be used in audio visual and medical devices, telecommunication equipment, and Samsung Smart Home products and in Internet of Things.
Other notable achievements of Samsung include the micro beam-forming control technology which enhances signal quality by optimizing the communication module to less than 1/3000 of a second.
The company is also credited for being the first to develop a method that allowed multiple devices to connect to a network all at the same time.
