Microsoft is seemingly betting big on tablets despite lackluster sales and if new reports are to be believed Redmond’s new 10.6-inch Surface Pro 4 is ready to hit the production line as early as this month.
According to Digitimes, production of components for 10.6-inch Surface Pro 4 is to commence this month and mass production of the tablets will kick off next month i.e. September. The source also claimed that the new Surface tablet will be much lighter and slimmer as compared to the current 12-inch Surface Pro 3.
Microsoft’s upstream supply chain is confident that Surface Pro 4 will garner favourable response and better sales performance because of its design and easy-to-carry aspects.
Microsoft confirmed earlier that it ditched Surface Mini at the last moment. We believe that Microsoft doesn’t want to risk setbacks by foraying into a tablet market which is already crowded thanks to other big brands as well as white-box vendors.
A 10.6-inch Surface Pro 4 would ideally act as an upgrade to existing Surface Pro 2 and we expect quite a few improvements in the latest tablet. First of all a 2GHz processor accompanied by 3 or 4GB RAM would definitely give the tablet a huge specification bump over other tablets in the same segment.
Storage options of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB also make perfect sense and the usual refinements to camera and other features would definitely be welcomed.
We are not sure how credible these rumours are, but Digitimes’ sources have proved accurate quite a few times; however, like all other rumours we would recommend you to take this one with a grain of salt.
Doubtful.
A ‘surface 3’ is more likely. I predict full windows on Intel atom with decent performance but great battery life and low cost. There is a chance of better processors but I don’t know how they could possibly pull off anything as powerful as the pro 3 in a smaller body without making huge concessions elsewhere.
Hope they keep the same aspect ratio as the pro 3, it’s really quite nice.
