Microsoft has revealed through a tweet that its week-old Office for iPad apps including Word, Excel, PPT and OneNote have been downloaded 12 million times after having made to the top of Apple’s iOS App Store charts in just one day after launch.
“More than 12 million downloads of Word, Excel, PPT & OneNote for #iPad from the @AppStore <3” read the tweet.
Currently, the apps stand at number one, two, and three spots of the iPad App Store’s free app rankings.
Another tweet from a happy Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella with a picture showing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint were the three most popular free applications at the App Store read “Looks like it’s a pretty productive Friday for #iPad owners!”
Microsoft’s latest iPad “freemium” offerings are absolutely free to download for users who just want to read or present documents without needing a paid subscription. But those who want to create or edit in Word, Excel or PowerPoint will need to pay a $9.99 monthly subscription or an annual $99 for Office 365.
Microsoft however is yet to share details about the number of Office 365 subscriptions gained through the apps.
“We’re extremely pleased with the Office for iPad interest we’ve seen from consumers and business alike. We have no additional details to share,” said the company in a statement.
