LG has confirmed the existence of its G Pro 2 phablet without much fireworks and has indicated that it will launch the handset sometime in February.
The announcement made on Monday indicates that the G Pro 2 is likely to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) to be held in Barcelona, Spain from 24 February to 27 February, 2014.
Though LG did not share any specific details about the phablet, rumors suggest the new handset is likely to sport high-end hardware. The device is being considered as the company’s first to be quipped with a fingerprint sensor. The phablet is rumored to have features including a 6-inch Full HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4 KitKat, and LTE Advanced.
The LG G Pro successor will directly compete with other popular devices currently in the market including Samsung Galaxy Note 3, HTC One Max, and Sony Xperia Z Ultra. As per research firm IDC’s reports, phablets accounted for around 21 per cent of smartphone shipments in Q3 2013 as compared to 3 per cent in Q3 2012 and this explains the attraction of big smartphone manufacturers towards big-screened handsets.
The G Pro 2 will be the fourth in LG’s G series line of devices, starting with the LG (Optimus) G, the LG (Optimus) G Pro, and finally the LG G2.
