Apple is likely to invade the phablet market dominated by Android smartphone vendors including Samsung and Sony by releasing two not one new iPhones with large screens this year.
The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, is claiming that Cupertino will be launching two devices in the second half of 2014. The report claims that one of the iPhones will have a 4.5-inch screen, while the other one will boast of even larger screen – probably 5-inch or bigger than that. The latest report is just another one of many others, which have earlier claimed two iPhones this year.
Both the upcoming iPhone versions will reportedly have metal casings and at least one will have a wrap around display as rumours and patent filing indicate. Apple, unlike its leading rivals Samsung and LG, will not use curved screen displays. There have been reports that Apple has already locked 4.8-inch as size of its iPhone 6 and if that is the case then the other one might have a screen bigger than 5-inch.
Phablets have been a huge success in many markets across the world and it seems that Apple may finally do away with its one hand operations rule with a large-screen smartphone.
The success of Samsung’s Galaxy Note series phablets, with screen sizes greater than 5-inch says it all.
According to forecast by Juniper Research this week phablet shipments will cross 120 million units. The iPad maker is also planning to stop making plastic body phones and is expected to include additional features in its awaited larger screen models.
Just yesterday we reported of a video of a large iPhone metal casing that showed up on YouTube. The creator of the video claimed that it was shot in one of Apple’s factories.
