A tweet from a Russian leaker Eldar Murtazin, who is known for his correctness of his previous leaks, has claimed that Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S5 in Barcelona on February 23 at 6 in the evening.
Samsung earlier confirmed that Galaxy S5 will go on sale by April this year and had even hinted at a possible MWC unveil and the latest tweet seems more or less in line with the launch timeline. Samsung will not want to launch a flagship device during MWC 2014 and that’s the reason a February 23 unveil does carry a little weight. However the February unveil rumours contradicts earlier reports of a March unveil.
“Samsung Galaxy S5 launch – 18.00. Barcelona. 23 February. Price the same. Launch – end of April. Specs – u know them 🙂 new touchwiz ;)” tweeted Murtazin.
Murtazin revealed that Galaxy S5 will have a redesigned TouchWiz UI and will carry a price similar to that of Galaxy S4. Analysts have claimed that the Galaxy S4 didn’t have the ‘wow’ factor for the price it was being offered at and Galaxy S5, if it has the right ingredients, will garner greater attention at a similar price.
For those who aren’t aware of rumours specifications of Galaxy S5 here is a short lowdown. S5 is said to be powered by Exynos 6 or Snapdragon 805 processor, 20-megapixel rear camera with improved optical image stabilisation, 2,560 × 1,440p display, 5.25-inch AMOLED display, and 4GB / 3GB RAM.
There is a confusion regarding the form of biometric authentication that Samsung will use in Galaxy S5. There have been contradicting reports of an iris scanner and fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S5, and time will tell which of the two will be selected eventually.
