We revealed yesterday that some Surface Pro 2 users were reporting of a firmware update that hit their tablets over the weekend, but didn’t actually know what the update fixed. But, now we do know that the update indeed fixes the battery life issues that cropped after the botched December firmware update.
Users took to Twitter and some forums to report an update that hit their Surface Pro 2 tablets on January 17 and 18. The update is listed under ‘Windows 8.1 Drivers’ and named System Firmware Update with a 4.2MB size, but didn’t come with KB number or any specific information.
Waggener Edstrom Communications, Microsoft’s public relations firm, sent out a written confirmation to PCWorld that an update was released over the weekend and it addresses the battery drain and unexpected wake issues.
“This weekend we released an update that addresses the unexpected wake and battery drain behavior experienced by a small number of Surface Pro 2 customers who installed the December Windows Update,” confirmed the PR firm in a statement to PCWorld. “This should have no impact on customers who had not received the December update.”
Back in December last year, Microsoft issues a Surface Pro 2 firmware update that messed up things big time for those who actually applied it. Unexpected battery drains, inability to fully charge the tablet, erratic wake and sleep issues, and similar issues cropped up for those unfortunate ones who applied the update hours after it was released. Microsoft pulled the update, but not before some users downloaded it.
