Spotify has removed the time limit on free desktop streaming shortly after it did so for its tablet app allowing users to stream music for unlimited number of hours.
Though tablet and mobile apps have limitations when it comes to unlimited streaming in the form of user-made playlists, desktop app doesn’t have that restriction and it allows for unlimited streaming in general.
“There have never been any time limits in place in the U.S., but in some other markets, we had to restrict your listening time to some hours a month once a 6-month unlimited grace period had passed”, noted Spotify.
“But now, if you haven’t noticed, there’s no more time limit if you are using Spotify for free”, added Spotify.
Spotify’s move is in stark contrast to other players including Rdio, which still limits users to a certain number of free streams that too for just six month following which users are required to pay for a subscription or just go somewhere else.
Back in December last year, Spotify announced ad-supported free music on tablets and mobiles. There is a limitation though – users will only be able to access a precompiled playlists in shuffle mode or use the free-standing shuffle products and will only be able to perform limited searches.
