Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of the company’s mobile business, has revealed one of the possible unique features of the Galaxy S5 stating that the company is studying the possibility of iris recognition technology.
While speaking with Bloomberg, Hee said “Many people are fanatical about iris recognition technology,” and that they are looking into it, “but can’t really say whether we will have it or not on the S5.”
Hee didn’t reveal a lot about other features of the Galaxy S5, but did give a clue about the possible release dates of the Galaxy S5. “We’ve been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time,” said Hee. This means that Samsung could announce the Galaxy S5 anywhere between now and April and make it available soon after.
Hinting at the possible design change for the Galaxy Gear, Hee said that a new version of the smartwatch will also debut alongside the Galaxy S5. The new Gear will pack “more advanced functions,” and Samsung is working to improve the bulky design.
There are reports talking about a possible design change of the Galaxy S5 as well and that Samsung is currently in R&D phase for a possible diamond metal surface treatment technology to metal cases. This means that previous reports of metal encased Galaxy S5 might not be entirely wrong. The primary reason behind going for diamond metal surface treatment technology is that this make the Galaxy S5 less vulnerable to scratches.
