Samsung Display has started mass production of 5.25-inch QHD AMOLED display that will be fitted on Galaxy S5 smartphone, reports from Korean media claim.
According to Korean publication DDaily, the Galaxy S5 will feature a 5.25-inch display panel with 1,440 x 2,560p resolution at a pixel density of a whopping 560ppi. The latest report about the display and screen resolution is more or less in line with previous reports wherein we cited GFXBench results showing a certain SM-G900S with 2K screen resolution.
Sources have told DDaily that “Galaxy S5 WQHD AM OLED panels will be mounted on the sub-pixel structure” and will boast of a similar material composition Galaxy S4 while featuring a higher resolution.
The GFXBench results also showed the smartphone as packing a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974AC SoC and running Android 4.4 KitKat.
It has also been reported that the Korean electronics giant will be releasing two S5 variants – one metal encased one and another with plastic body. The metal encased Galaxy S5 will be competing with the likes of iPhone 5S and HTC One, while the cheaper polycarbonate encased S5 will be sold in emerging markets.
Rumours also point to the possibility of a 16-megapxiel camera and 4GB RAM.
