Aldi has managed to sell all of the initial stock of its low-cost £79.99 Lifetab tablet, the company has revealed.
Launched in the first week of December, and pitched directly against other budget-friendly tablets like Tesco Hudl and Argos MyTablet, the Lifetab E7316 has been sold out completely said an Aldi spokesperson reported BBC.
Aldi’s Lifetab, developed in collaboration with Medion, doesn’t pack jaw-dropping specifications, but it has enough to attract avid casual buyers who are looking for a gadget for a birthday or Christmas present. Powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, the Lifetab packs 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (expandable using a microSD card), Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, USB host function, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 7-inch screen with 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution, rear 2.0-megapixels camera and a 0.3-megapixels front snapper.
“The biggest selling point here is definitely the price,” said Aldi spokesperson. “The larger screen size gives entertainment on the move to users, which is becoming very popular among commuters and children”, the spokesperson added.
“However, most parents don’t want to spend £300-£500 on a device that will mainly be used to play games, to watch movies and a few other educational applications.”
Tesco has been successful with its Hudl tablet as well and has sold 300,000 tablets since its launch. Aldi hasn’t revealed the number of tablets it has managed to sell thus far, but we expect the official numbers to pop up soon; however, the numbers shouldn’t be huge as Aldi has revealed that ‘Specialbuy’ promotions of the Lifetab were limited “only until stocks last”.
