Andrew House, President and Group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment has officially announced the sales figures of PlayStation 4 gaming consoles – a whopping 2.1 million units since its launch in US.
Having sold over one million units in just 24 hours after its launch in North America and Canada, the console has been launched in total of 32 countries including UK. “…with PS4’s global launch expanding to a total of 32 countries worldwide, including Europe and Latin America, I’m proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold”, wrote House in a blog post.
PlayStation 4 is seemingly ahead of Xbox One in sales number in US, UK and other countries. Just yesterday there were reports of the PS4 selling as many as 250,000 units in the UK alone within 4 days of its launch. So much so, the sales of PS4 along with Xbox One is hurting sales of Wii U even to the extent that analysts are predicting that Nintendo will not be able to reach its goal of 9 million units by end of 2013.
“The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead”, noted House.
Attributing the over the top sales and success of PlayStation 4 to its fans, House said “Thank you for your passion and your support — we couldn’t have done this without you.”
