One of the members over at XDA-Developers has managed to root Amazon’s latest Kindle Fire HDX tablets by exploiting a vulnerability in Amazon’s custom Android Fire OS operating system.
Published by jcase and dubbed to be the original work of “fi01”, the exploit code works on the latest version of Fire OS, which is based on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The root code will work with software version 14.3.1 for the Kindle Fire HDX and 13.3.1 for the 7-inch model.
Gaining root access to Kindle Fire HDX or for that matter any device will with most certainty void manufacturer’s warranty and we recommend our readers to take a pause for the cause before they decide to plunge.
For those who are uninitiated about the ‘root’ buzzword – it is a mechanism through which you will be able to gain access system level files and settings, which were otherwise off limits to a normal user. Once rooted, you can go about tweaking your device and install apps, which require root permissions.
