Apple has started treading the larger iPad road and has placed orders with its supply chain for 2014 launch.
According to reports from upstream supply chain, Apple has already placed orders with Quanta Computer for manufacture of 12.9-inch iPads and is planning to launch the device sometime in 2014. The larger iPad is a move away from the conventional tablet sizes and chances are the Apple may not order the tablet in huge quantities.
Sources have told Taiwan based DigiTimes that beyond the 12.9-inch iPads, Apple is also planning to launch its iWatch wearables in 2014 and has placed orders for the same with Inventec, Quanta and Foxconn Electronics. The upstream supply chain sources have also claimed that pilots for the iWatch did start this year, but because of yield issues mass productions have been delayed to 2014.
Earlier there were reports that Apple and Samsung are both working on 12-inch tablets. Declining PC sales seems to be the primary reason behind both the companies opting for a larger tablet.
Previously The Wall Street Journal, Macotakara, and DisplaySearch reported that a 13-inch iPad was in the making and the larger iPad will debut sometime in 2014. For more, read Apple may launch 13-inch iPad; here’s why.
