In what the company claims to be its biggest ever launch, Microsoft has revealed that it has managed to sell a million Xbox One consoles in less than 24 hours matching Sony’s launch day sales of PlayStation 4.
Microsoft launched its first console in seven years after Xbox 360 in 13 countries simultaneously including the US, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Canada.
“The team is excited to confirm the launch of Xbox One was the biggest launch in Xbox history, with more than one million consoles sold through worldwide in less than 24 hours – surpassing day one Xbox 360 sales and setting a new record for Microsoft”, notes the company on Xbox Wire.
Xbox One’s sales might not be comparable with that of the PlayStation 4 in a head-to-head fashion considering the fact that latter was only launched in two countries as compared to the former’s 13. Microsoft hasn’t provided a country-wise breakup of its sales yet, but if we go by estimates, PlayStation 4 has an upper hand considering one million units sold in just two countries. However, Microsoft has earned more cash considering one million units in sales at $499 each – $500 million.
“Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers. We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers”, said Microsoft notes TechCrunch.
