Less than a month after its US launch, the Kindle Fire HDX from Amazon have made it to UK shores and will hit shelves as early as has November 13.
Amazon has announced the launch of 7-inch and 8.9-inch variants of the Kindle Fire HDX in the UK. With a starting price of £199, the 7-inch HDX will be available starting November 13 while the 8.9-inch variant with a starting price of £329 will be available from December 13 – both before Christmas.
The new Kindle Fire HDX range of tablets is slimmer and lighter than its predecessors. Powered by 2.2GHz quad-core processors, both the tablets feature 2GB of RAM and claim to have up to 11 hours of battery life. There is a difference in the screen resolutions though as the 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX has a 1,980 x 1,200 resolution with 323ppi as compared to 2,560 x 1,600 with 339ppi of the 8.9-inch version.
Both the variants will come in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage options in Wi-fi only and Wi-fi & 4G options. One of the unique features of the Kindle Fire HDX is that it comes with a special Mayday button that connects the user directly to a Kindle Fire support specialist who can not only educate users on the usability of the tablet and its various options, but can also remotely control your tablet to resolve issues.
Both the tablets are powered by Amazon’s latest Fire OS 3.0 that features revamped email and calendar apps and improved web browser. Some of the other features of the tablets are parental controls dubbed FreeTime that allows parents to set timer for children’s activities including gameplay, movies, or e-books before shutting off the device.
