Apple’s new 9.7-inch iPad referred to as iPad Air 2 will be offered in gold in addition to the already available space gray and silver colours, according to sources familiar with the decision.
The sources told Bloomberg about the Apple’s decision to introduce an additional colour to the existing colour choices. If it turns out to be true, the iPad range will have the same colour options as the iPhone range has since the introduction of iPhone 5S.
The gold and silver models will have a white front panel while the space gray models will have a black panel in the front. iPad sales has fell a bit in the past year and Apple CEO Tim Cook was quoted saying that the fall in the sale of iPads was a “speed bump” for the company.
The company has already announced and experimented with colour variations before by introducing candy colours for the Macs which reportedly didn’t make any difference in the sales figures. Also, the lower end model iPhone 5C was also introduced in bright colours in 2013 which likely didn’t bring good news to the sales strategists at Apple.
Other features that are expected to come with the iPad Air 2 are Touch ID and anti- reflective display. Another source says that the bigger version of the iPad with a 12.9-inch screen will be introduced only by next year, while the 9.7-inch model is expected to be unveiled later this month.
