Existence of Windows 9 and its name was confirmed by Microsoft China through a Weibo post earlier today.
The post from Microsoft China, which was deleted soon after but not before a screengrab was taken by Cnbeta, talked about the ‘coming soon’ status of Windows 9 along with the possibility of a comeback for Start button.
“Microsoft’s latest OS Windows 9 is coming soon, do you think the start menu at the left bottom will make a come back?” read the post along with which was attached a Windows 9 mockup logo.

There have been several reports that Microsoft wants to roll out Windows 9 as soon as possible considering the lackluster performance of Windows 8 with some even claiming that Windows 8 will not be receiving any new features post update 1 which was recently released.
Just a few days back there were reports of Microsoft gearing up for roll out of Windows 9 technical preview with features such as the start menu, ability to run modern UI apps in resizable desktop mode, support for virtual desktops and Cortana integration.
The over-emphasis on touch-friendly features of Windows 8 has been one of the most criticized features for the fact that non-touchscreen desktop and laptop users found it rather difficult to interact with the OS.
This is what rumours have been pointing to with Microsoft designing Windows 9 such that it will allow a tablet to behave as a tablet and a desktop be a desktop PC with more mouse-friendly features.
