Recent reports suggest that almost half of Apple’s 4.7-inch iPhone 6 production order has been allotted to supply partner Pegatron.
According to a report from Digitimes, citing sources from the upstream supply chain, Apple partner supplier Pegatron will be manufacturing almost half, 25 million handsets, of the total 50 million 4.7-inch iPhone 6 units expected to be shipped by 2014 end, with Foxconn ending up with the remaining 25 million handsets.
Previously, it was reported that Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) would get all of the Apple’s new 5.5-inch model orders and 70 percent of the 4.7-inch model’s orders. However, the latest report claims orders for the 4.7-inch models are split evenly between Pegatron and Foxconn.
Apple’s relationship with Pegatron is said to have improved as the later has managed overall assembly for the iPad mini and the iPhone 5c during the past year.
With Apple’s bulk production order, Pegatron is likely to report impressive fourth quarter results. According to sources, Apple’s orders currently contribute to 30-40 percent of the supplier company’s revenues.
The Cupertino is expected unveil its next-generation iPhone in 2 variants on September 9 with shipments possibly in October or November. The new iPhone 6 is expected to feature sapphire glass display, a thinner, curved bezel, a faster A8 chip, an advanced camera and iOS 8.
