Finnish smartphone maker Jolla is all set to make its Indian debut in partnership with e-commerce giant Snapdeal.
The company announced on Twitter that it has entered an agreement with Snapdeal.com to launch its Jolla smartphone in the country.
Jolla confirmed that as part of the deal its smartphone will be made available for sale exclusively on the online retailer’s website within a month.
The smartphone’s India launch is now being teased on the official Jolla site with the tagline, “Jolla sails to India.” The website also allows interested Indians to sign-up for notifications related to the smartphone’s availability in India.
The Finnish startup, founded by a bunch of former Nokia executives, had already announced in February that it would be expanding the availability of its smartphone to Hong Kong, India, and Russia by this year.
The Jolla smartphone, which went on sale in November, features a 4.5-inch IPS qHD(540 x 960p) display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB storage expandable via microSD card, a 2100mAh battery, 8-megapixel AF camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, the smartphone runs Sailfish OS which features button-less, gesture-based navigation and supports Android apps.
Although there’s no word on the pricing of the device yet, the company website lists Jolla with a price tag of 349 Euros, which is approximately Rs 28,475 in INR.
Sami Pienimäki, co-founder and CMO of Jolla said the company is looking forward to get a good response from a rising smartphone market like India.
