Yahoo is the latest Silicon Valley Company to follow the demographics disclosure trend as the tech giant on Tuesday shared information on the diversity of its work force.
Like LinkedIn and Google, Yahoo revealed that its workforce is less than 40 percent female and around 62 percent male. Women hold for only 15 percent of the technical jobs and 23 percent of the company’s leadership positions.
The statistics shows, despite being run by a female Chief Executive Officer, Marissa Mayer, the company’s leadership is mainly male dominated as male accounts for about 77 percent of the higher leadership roles.
Jackie Reses, Yahoo’s chief development officer, announcing the figures in Tuesday’s report wrote, “Here at Yahoo we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining a diverse workforce.
Overall, our goal at Yahoo is to create a workplace culture that attracts and retains all talents, regardless of background, and to help our people grow to their full potential.”
The Sunnyvale Company said that out of its total 12,200 global employees, 50 percent are white, 39 percent Asian, 4 percent Hispanic, 2 percent black and 4 percent undisclosed or more than 1 race.
Among leadership ranks, 78 percent were identified as white and 17 percent Asian, while in case of tech jobs, Asian employees accounted for 57 percent, with whites at 35 percent.
The disclosure reveals that Yahoo stands at a slightly better position than Google in terms of women empowerment. While women constitute 37 percent of Yahoo’s global workforce, they only made up to 30 percent of Google’s total workforce.
