With just a day to go until the Microsoft’s Surface event, the latest rumor has it that the company is likely to release the third generation Surface tablet – Surface Pro 3 along with the long-rumored Surface Mini.
Windows Phone Central reports that Microsoft is planning to introduce five new Surface Pro 3 tablets and has leaked some details including pricing, processors and storage size.
CNET has confirmed with an anonymous source that the new Intel-based Surface Pro 3 is looming ahead stating “From what I can assess so far I think it’s going to (have) a new power-optimized Haswell variant.”
Reports claim that the new tablet will sport a larger 12-inch screen with slimmer bezels, a Windows button on the vertical side, and new Type covers, said to be available in colors – black, purple, cyan and red (Microsoft exclusive). Surface Pro 3 is also speculated to be a refreshed tablet sporting predictable similarities with its predecessors.
If the rumors are to be believed, the base unit of Surface Pro 3 will carry an Intel Core i3 chip with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage for $799. A Core i5 tablet packed with 4GB RAM and 128GB, will retail at $999, while another Core i5 tablet featuring 8GB RAM and 256GB, will cost $1299.
The top-of-the-line Surface Pro 3 will be equipped with a Core i7 chip, 8GB RAM and 512GB storage for a cost of $1,949, while another version of i7 tablet with 256GB storage will be $1549.
Microsoft recently posted a hint indicating the existence of Surface Pro 3 tablet, on its Windows support page, which referenced the “Surface Pro 3 camera,” which has since been scrubbed claiming it to be merely “a typo.”
With the Surface event invite reading “small gathering,” Surface Mini is expected to be the main attraction at Tuesday’s event in New York. However, Microsoft is yet to make any official announcement on Surface Mini as well as Surface Pro 3.
