Flappy Bird, one of the most popular free mobile game on Apple App Store and Google’s Android Play store, is now no more available on the online app stores as Dong Nguyen, the game developer, has removed the game from online stores on Sunday.
New users won’t be able to download the game now as it has been removed from the app stores, but existing users can continue playing the game on their devices.
The Hanoi-based game developer had warned a day before the removal he will be pulling the app from the App Store and Google Play Store as he can’t take it any more.
The game which was launched in May 2013, surged to the top in downloads earlier this year with total download figures reaching more than 50 million and attracting more than half a million reviews.
The free-to-play game required users to navigate a bird through randomly generated pipes. Dong claimed on Twitter that he created the addictive game in only a few nights.
Nguyen’s app removal decision came after a series of tweets he made which clearly explained his frustration with the game.
“I can call ‘Flappy Bird’ a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it,” he tweeted.
The developer has said that he has no intentions of selling the game and that he would continue making games.
