Minecraft Pocket Edition hits 21 million copies sold milestone
Minecraft’s popularity can be judged by the fact that the Pocket Edition of the game for iOS and Android has successfully reached a new milestone by selling more than 21 million copies.
Mojang’s Jens Bergensten confirmed the game’s mobile edition milestone on Twitter. Sales of the game’s Pocket Edition, which debuted in October 2011 on Android and the following month on iOS, have more than doubled in less than a year. At the end of April 2013, the game had sold 10 million copies in total.
Minecraft’s Xbox 360 Edition recently surpassed 12 million copies and 14 million on PC. The game in its first month on PS3 marked 1 million sales.
To celebrate the milestone, the Minecraft mobile development team including Bergensten, Johan Bernhardsson and Tommaso Checchi will be holding a live panel broadcast from Mojang’s offices on Monday, April 14th in which they will be answering questions submitted by fans via Reddit.
“We’re hoping to harness the collective power of our Pocket Edition players to submit questions to this reddit thread. Then we’ll pick the best ones and put them to the team live on air,” the Mojang studio team wrote.
“This is all in celebration of hitting over 20m sales of Pocket Edition just a few days ago. We’re extremely grateful to all players for your dedication and creativity. Without that, Minecraft wouldn’t be anywhere near as significant as it is today.”
